Main Ingredients:
- Saltine Crackers (about 24)
- Butter (2 tablespoons, softened)
- Oregano (½ teaspoon)
- Marjoram (¼ teaspoon)
- Grated Cheese (1 cup, cheddar or a blend)
- Mayonnaise (¼ cup)
- Mustard (1 teaspoon)
- Worcestershire Sauce (½ teaspoon) or
- Paprika (½ teaspoon)
Basic Cooking Steps:
Instructions:
- Preheat Oven: Set oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with foil for easy cleanup.
- Make the Spread: In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons softened butter with ½ teaspoon oregano and ¼ teaspoon marjoram.
- Prepare the Topping: In another bowl, combine 1 cup grated cheese, ¼ cup mayonnaise, 1 teaspoon prepared mustard, and ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce or ½ teaspoon paprika. Stir until smooth.
- Butter the Crackers: Spread the butter mixture on each saltine cracker and arrange them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake the Crackers: Place in the oven and bake for 3–5 minutes, or until the crackers turn lightly golden brown.
- Add Cheese Topping: Remove from oven and immediately top each cracker with the cheese mixture.
- Broil the Crackers: Switch the oven to broil. Return the crackers to the oven and broil for 1–2 minutes, watching closely, until the cheese is melted and bubbly with lightly browned edges.
- Serve Immediately: These are best eaten hot. Once cooled, the topping may become leathery.
